Ronaldo (Brazil) is second with 15 goals, ahead of Gerd Müller (14) and Just Fontaine (13 — all scored at the 1958 World Cup, still the single-tournament record). Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player to score at five different World Cups.

The 1930 World Cup saw American striker Bert Patenaude score the first-ever hat-trick. The 1994 tournament in the USA set an average attendance of 68,991 per game — a record that still stands. The 2022 final between Argentina and France ended 3-3 after extra time, making it the highest-scoring final in history and arguably the greatest game ever played.
