About the World Cup Grid
The World Cup Grid is a daily football puzzle built in the spirit of the Immaculate Grid, but reworked so that every answer is multiple choice and fully verified. The board is a simple 3x3 layout. Down the left side are three countries, each shown with its flag. Across the top are three World Cup achievements, such as World Cup winner, Golden Ball winner, Golden Boot winner, played in a World Cup final, or played at three or more World Cups. The nine inner squares are where you play.
Every square sits at the crossing point of one country and one achievement. To solve it, you need a player who satisfies both at once. A square where France meets Golden Boot winner, for example, needs a French player who has won the World Cup Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer. Tap the square and the game shows you four candidate names in a shuffled order. Pick the one you believe fits, and the grid gives you instant feedback.
Because it is multiple choice, you never have to guess a spelling or wonder whether a player technically qualifies. The correct option is always one of the four, and it has been checked against reputable records in advance. That keeps the puzzle fair while still rewarding real knowledge of World Cup history. The trade-off is that you get only one guess per square. A correct pick fills the square green with a tick and shows a short fact about the player. A wrong pick locks the square red and reveals who the right answer actually was, so you still learn something from every miss.
Once all nine squares are attempted, you get a score out of nine, a grade, and a shareable emoji grid of green and red squares. How many guesses do I get per square?
One. Each of the nine squares gives you a single pick with no retries. A correct pick fills the square green with a tick, and a wrong pick locks it red while revealing the player who was actually correct. Your final score is how many of the nine squares you got right.
Does the grid change every day?
Yes. A new daily grid is selected automatically each day, so everyone playing on the same date sees the same board. After you finish the daily grid you can tap Play Again to cycle through the other boards in the rotation and practise as many times as you like.
Are the answers verified?
Every correct answer is checked against Wikipedia's FIFA World Cup awards lists and tournament squad records before it is added. When a square combines a country and an award such as the Golden Ball or Golden Boot, the correct player both played for that country and won that specific honour. Uncertain facts are removed rather than softened.
What do the achievements like Golden Ball and Golden Boot mean?
The Golden Ball is awarded to the best overall player of a World Cup, the Golden Boot goes to the tournament's top scorer, and World Cup winner means the player was part of a squad that lifted the trophy. Other columns include playing in a World Cup final or appearing at three or more World Cups. Each column is an independent achievement, and the player in a square must satisfy both its row and its column.
How is my score graded?
You are scored out of nine. Nine out of nine is a Perfect Grid, seven or eight is World Class, five or six is Solid, three or four is Off the Bench, and zero to two means Back to Training. When you finish you also get a shareable emoji grid of green and red squares to challenge your friends.
Can I share my result?
Yes. After you complete a grid you get a spoiler-free emoji summary showing which squares you got right and wrong, plus your score out of nine. Use the share button to send it to friends by your device's share sheet, or copy it to your clipboard and post it anywhere.
